Kigali Night Run (5.4km) 7p.m

Thousands are expected to take part in the 5th edition of the Kigali Night Run due later today.

According to organisers, the 5.4km race is open to all and will be starting from Kigali Convention Centre/Kigali Business Centre roundabout and end at the Prime Minister’s Office (Primature) roundabout in Kimihurura.

Rwanda National Police have since put out a public notice warning motorists of the time and routes of the marathon, which will see Kigali Convention Cenre-Primature road closed off to traffic.

"Due to the Kigali Night Run, the road from KCC-Kigali Heights-Kabindi-Primature roundabout will be closed to traffic flow from 1900hrs-2100hrs today,” the Force tweeted Friday.

Police urged motorists to bear with the inconvenience saying its officers will be on hand to direct them to alternative routes.

The Kigali Night Run is largely a curtain-raiser for the annual Kigali International Peace Marathon. This year’s peace marathon is set for June 16.

The last time Kigali Night Run took place was during the 2019 Transform Africa Summit in Kigali three weeks ago.

Motorists that usually drive through the Kimihurura area – that will be cordoned off in the course of the marathon tonight – heading to or returning from the central business district or other destinations will be expected to use alternative routes.
