Local, international artistes for European street fair

Kigali’s biggest street party, European Street Fair, will this Saturday, June 8, return for its third edition to be held at the Car Free Zone.

The fair, organised by the EU Delegation in Rwanda together with EU Member States Embassies in Kigali, has a lineup of amazing artists from within and outside Rwanda, including the female duo of Charly na Nina, and popular rapper Riderman. Belgian rapper and fashion icon Baloji will headline the event, with a live performance of Congolese vintage sounds fused with Hip-hop will get the crowd jumping together with his band. Other international artistes include Rido, Kuruka Chama, among others.

Lots of fun activities like games, drumming, basketball challenges, poems, art exhibition, drinks and food from Kigali’s vendors, dance performances and kids’ zones have also been lined up and are expected to excite revelers starting as early as 2pm till midnight. There will also be a quiz competition test people on their knowledge about Europe will be tested prizes the winners will walk away with after the quiz and competitions.

Flora Kaitesi, the Press and Information Officer, EU delegation to Rwanda said that the street fair is part of the public diplomacy activities organised throughout the year, where organisers seek to raise awareness about what the EU does in Rwanda in different sectors such as Agriculture and rural development, energy, governance.

"European Union Delegation in Rwanda and City of Kigali have good relationship so it’s great that we are allowed to come back to the Car Free Zone and grateful that we can work together to inject vibrancy, music, games, exhibit art for the whole family on the clean and safe street of Kigali city,” Eric Soul the Creative Expert and Senior Advisor of the street fair told The New Times.

The event will be free for all those that would wish to attend and the emcees for the day will be celebrated radio personalities Arthur Nkusi and Anita Pendo.

This is the second time that the street fair will be staged at the car free zone, after the first one was held two years ago at the Amahoro Stadium Grounds.
