APR skipper Jean Baptiste ‘Migi’ Mugiraneza has called on his teammates to "believe and fight until the last minute” despite the military side standing slim chances to retain the Azam Rwanda Premier League title.

The champions host lowly Espoir on Saturday, but the result would be meaningless to their title bid should Rayon Sports beat Kirehe on Friday.

With both sides left with two games this season, Rayon are in command with 66 points, four ahead of APR, who have only won two of their last six matches.

In an exclusive interview with Times Sport on Tuesday, Mugiraneza lamented his side’s disappointing 2-1 loss to AS Muhanga over the weekend, challenging his teammates to have mental strength and desire to collect maximum points from their remaining two fixtures.

He said: "We have had a tough time – and a poor run of results – in the last few weeks, but the fight is still on until we are mathematically out.”

"We know we are in a very bad position, but we also know – and have seen that nothing is impossible in football. We have got to do our part, winning our games,”  noted Mugiraneza.

League champions will represent the country at the 2019/2020 CAF Champions League, while winners of the 2019 Peace Cup tournament – which starts next month – will feature in the CAF Confederation Cup.

"Winning the title is not impossible, but it would be a miracle.”

After their respective match-day 29 ties, leaders Rayon will wrap up the league season with Marines, while APR will be up against law enforcers Police, on June 1.
