Saturday UR Huye 49-95 Patriots IPRC-Huye 81-68 UGB

Steven Hagumintwari scored a game-high 24 points as Patriots regained the top spot on Saturday with an effortless 95-49 win over University of Rwanda’s Huye Campus in the Bank of Kigali National Basketball League.

Small forward Havugintwari, who has averaged 17.55 points per game this season, also made four rebounds and four assists during his 30 minutes on the court, while Kenya international Michael Makiadi contributed 20 points.

With the victory, Patriots leapfrogged Rwanda Energy Group (REG) into the commanding position courtesy of head-to-head advantage as both local giants are level at 30 points, having both won 14 games, and lost twice, respectively.

The game also marked the end of the regular season, with the top four teams; Patriots, REG, Espoir and APR heading into the 2019 playoff games.

In other fixtures of the weekend, IPRC-Huye saw off United Generation for Basketball (UGB) 81-68 yesterday, while Maxime Mwiseneza’s Espoir overcame IPRC-Kigali 64-60 on Friday.

According to a tentative information, this year’s playoffs will be played in July.
