Cricket: Rwanda begin quest for glory at World Cup qualifiers

The women’s national cricket team will be looking to get off to a winning start on Sunday when they take on Nigeria in their opener at the African qualifiers for the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

The qualifiers tournament, which runs from today till May 11, is hosted in Zimbabwe.

In a recent interview with Sunday Sport, the Rwandan side coach Joshua Mwanja said that he had confidence in his ladies, noting that ‘the target is to finish among the best two teams in Group A’ so they can progress to the second and final round of qualifiers.

The team departed Kigali on Friday night aboard a Kenya Airways flight.

After the first game, against Nigeria on Sunday, Rwanda will up-next face Mozambique on May 8 before playing Zimbabwe and Tanzania on May 9 and 11, respectively.

The best two teams from each of the two groups will automatically book spots to the final round of qualifiers. Group B includes; Uganda, Kenya, Namibia and Sierra Leone.
