Editor,

I write with deep concern about the very old service vehicles of the Commuter Transporters’ Association (ATRACO). While some of these cars are in good condition, many others are in a dangerous mechanical condition and as a matter of fact should not have qualified to pass the mechanical test.

If anyone noticed closely, most of them lack seat belts while others cannot make a single trip without breaking down. To illustrate this issue a visitor of mine from Botswana once exclaimed that "If one of these taxis knocks a passenger down, the casualty would immediately catch infections like Tetanus from the old vehicles.”

I request the traffic police to test all these vehicles once again or else we are yet to have many accidents as a result of these old motor vehicles. It is no wonder that many passengers prefer to travel with the coasters instead of these old cars.

ATRACO must urgently look into this issue too.
