As registration for East Africa’s Got Talent pre-auditions continues, over 2000 have already submitted their entries, organisers confirmed on Thursday.
Officially unveiled by Clouds Media in Kigali last month, organisers are receiving entries from participants who are bidding for selection from the pre-auditions for the inaugural season of the talent show.
In Rwanda, the pre-auditions are slated for May 25, at Intare Conference Arena, Rusororo.
Lee Ndayisaba (pictured), the executive producer of East Africa’s Got Talent, predicts a tight competition as the number of entries is getting higher and higher day after day.
He said people are still submitting their videos and registering online, though he did not give exact numbers. Meanwhile, the entries have already surpassed 2000, yet there is still three weeks of submission. "I can’t share the specific numbers because it’s not public yet because it may the eventual surprise element as the submission is still on the running, but, according to the updates I have, the production team has so far received a lot of entries from across the region,” Ndayisaba toldThe New Times.
He added: "We need more Rwandans who believe they have any talent to be part of the competition. Rwanda is not doing badly at the moment, and some of the entries are amazingly great! We need more from Rwanda coming for the pre-auditions because and stand their chance because we have no limits on entries.”
The East Africa’s Got Talent production team is looking at least 30 acts from Rwandan where they be taken to Nairobi for theater auditions to compete with other 30 acts from each of the other participating countries, namely Uganda, Tanzania and hosting nation Kenya, whereby the winner will be announced at the series grand finale slated for October 6, and will walk away with USD 50 000 (Rwf45 million).
The auditions are open to all sorts of talent, including singers, dancers, instrumentalists, magicians, comedians and novelty acts, among many more creative talents.
Participants still have until May 25 to submit their entries before the pre-auditions kick off in Kigali the same day on a note that there is no age limit but successful participants aged 18 and below will be required to show permission from parents or guardians.
Got Talent is the world’s most successful reality TV format ever and has since spawned spin-offs in over 60 countries. The format has had more than 900 million global viewers since it began airing in 2006 and has aired in 194 markets worldwide.
