Police students attending the 7th intake of the Police Senior Command and Staff Course (PSCSC) at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District have started a week-long external study tour in Beijing, China as part of the one-year course.

At least 30 Police students from nine African countries are attending the course, which offers a Master’s in Peace Studies and Conflict Transformation.

The students are from Sudan, Namibia, Nigeria, Liberia, South Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Central African Republic (CAR), and Rwanda, the host.

In Beijing, the officers and their trainers are headed by the commandant of NPC, Commissioner of Police Christophe Bizimungu.

On the first day of their external tour on Monday, they visited the People’s Public Security University of China (PPSUC), where they were received by the university president, CAO Shiquang.

Bizimungu and Shiquang emphasised cooperation between the two Police institutions.

The students also visited the Police Museum where they were introduced to the modernisation journey made by Chinese Police, hinged on strong values.

During the course of the week, they will also visit the China’s Modern Network Information Technologies and Cyber Security, the Global Strategic Security and Arms Control and the Research Center of the Ministry of Public Security.

This follows the ‘internal’ week-long tour last week when they visited different public and private institutions, including the Ministry of Justice, Rwanda Governance Board (RGB), and the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC).

The study tour seeks to relate theory with practical on the ground and is held under the theme "Good Governance, Social Economic Development and Justice as Pillars of Peace and Security.”

The Police Senior Command and Staff Course also cover strategic command, professional policing and executive leadership.
