The senior national teams, in both gender categories, began their quest for gold medals at the 2019 Beach Volleyball Africa Cup of Nations with victories on Tuesday.

The continental showpiece got underway yesterday and will be climaxing on April 27 at Jabi Lake Park in Abuja, Nigeria.

The men’s pair, comprising Olivier Ntagengwa and Patrick Kavalo Akumuntu, opened up their count with a hard fought three-set win over Egypt after going down 20-22 in the first set before bouncing back to take the second one 21-13 and match-deciding set 15-13.

Rwanda has been drawn in Group D, in men’s category, along with Morocco, Algeria and Egypt.

In the meantime, Paul Bitok’s ladies also started their campaign with an effortless victory over Niger, dominating both sets 21-13 and 21-9 to fire early warning to other hopefuls.

The duo of Charlotte Nzayisenga and Benitha Mukandayisenga is part of Group B that also includes Algeria and Niger.
