Know that “Old is gold”

Once upon a time there lived a boy named Peter. Peter and his parents were very poor and lived in a small house by the river. His parents worked for a rich man who owned the land in which they lived in.

One day the rich man asked Peter’s parents if he could take care of their son. Peter was very sad to leave his parents and he cried for days.

Eventually, Peter got used to being rich and forgot his poor parents. He became arrogant and did not want to get close to poor people.

Peter’s parents visited him occasionally but he did not want to see them. He thought they would embarrass him in front of his cool friends.

One day, when Peter was coming from school and he met a poor old woman by the door of their beautiful house. He just passed by her and entered into the house. He found the rich man sitting comfortably on the chairs.

"Who is the old woman outside?” Peter asked.

"That is your mother. She comes here daily because she misses you,” answered the rich man.

"But I have never seen her,” Peter cried.

"That is because you are blinded by the riches around you and forgotten your roots,” replied the rich man.

Peter ran out to meet his mother. He apologised for his arrogance and begged for forgiveness. Peter was reunited with his parents.

Peter’s story is a clear example of how easily we forget where we come from. When we go to school and meet new people we easily forget our good friends at home whom we loved.

We only want to hang out with our new cool friends. No matter where we go, we must always remember where we have come from, our humble homes, parents and friends. Always remember that ‘Old is Gold.’
