The local taekwondo body has confirmed that Rwanda will be represented by three fighters at the 2019 World Taekwondo Championships, slated for May 15-19 in Manchester, England.

The trio includes skipper Benon Kayitare (-54kg), Jean Paul Sekanyambo (-58kg) and Vincent Munyakazi in -68kg category.

Rwanda made her debut in World Taekwondo Championships at its 2015 edition in Russia, and no Rwandan has ever managed to win a medal in the annual prestigious competition to date.

"We have faith in the three athletes,” said Placide Bagabo, the president of Rwanda Taekwondo Federation.

"We are going to provide them with every possible support in training, and hope that they finally win a medal for the country in the world championships.”
