Police vs Etincelles

Police Football Club take on Etincelles seeking a win to keep pressure on SC Kiyovu in the battle for top-four finish in the 2018-19 Azam Rwanda Premier League.

Assistant coach Maurice Nshimiyimana, currently serving as interim head coach due to the four-month suspension of Joel Albert Mphande, says his team will be looking to collect as many points as possible from their remaining eight games – starting on Sunday.

The law enforcers are in fifth position with 34 points, four behind fourth-placed SC Kiyovu who visit Gicumbi FC on the same day.

"We are daring ourselves to win all our remaining games this season in bid for a top-four finish and, we are optimistic about our chances,” Nshimiyimana told Times Sport on Thursday.

"It has been a tough season, but we want to end it on a high.”

Nshimiyimana admits that it is over for title talks for them. "We have dropped many points, and at most times when it was not necessary. That’s how we dropped from the title race.”

The top tier league resumes Saturday after three weeks of break, which started late March to join the country in commemorating the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The league action returns with the country’s biggest football match pitting reigning champions APR against the 2016/2017 champions Rayon Sports at Kigali Stadium.

Ahead of the much-awaited clash of the titans, the two sides are separated by six points, with APR leading the table at 54 points.

Rayon, who host the tie, have so far garnered 48 points after 22 matches. Victory for the Blues will see them cutting the gap to three points with seven match rounds to the end of the season.
