Beach volley in high gear ahead of ANOCA Youth Games

TEAM RWANDA’S junior beach volleyball girls and boys have embarked on intensive preparations ahead of the upcoming ANOCA Zone V Youth Games, which is set for April 2-6 in Huye District.

Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) have named strong squads for the five-day competition and according to head coach Christopher Mudahinyuka, the target is to win medals at the regional tourney.

The competition will start Wednesday while draws and the official opening ceremony are set for Tuesday in Huye District.

"We are ready to play good game and win medals. We have home advantage so we will show our good level of preparedness” said Mudahinyuka.

Meanwhile, head coach Moise Mutokambali named teams that will represent Rwanda in 3x3 basketball at the five-day showpiece.

The youth teams, in boys’ and girls’ categories, will vie for honors in the three-a-side basketball contest against teams from Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and South Sudan.

The participating countries are: Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Egypt, Somalia, Eritrea, Uganda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Sudan and hosts Rwanda as well as the guest nation France.

The multidisciplinary competition will comprise cycling, athletics, taekwondo, beach volleyball and 3x3 basketball.

The squads:

Beach Volleyball

Boys: Dieu Est La Ndahayo, Bernard Masabo, Romeo Ngabo Rwamuhizi, and Merci Gisubizo

Girls:Penelope Musabyimana, Clementine Kayitesi, Hyacente Ingabire and Albertine Uwiringiyimana.

Cycling

Coach Nathan Byukusenge has named a strong team to represent the country both in men and women categories. The men include Renus Uhiriwe Byiza, Jean Eric Habimana, Eric Muhoza, Jean Baptiste Nsabimana and Felicien Hakizimana.

The women’s team has Diane Ingabire, Diane Ishimwe, Savelyne Nirere, Violette Neza Irakoze and Valentine Nzayisenga.

Basketball 3*3

Head coach Moise Mutokambali has named teams that will represent Rwanda in 3x3 basketball at the five-day showpiece.

The male team includes Jean de Dieu Uwimana, Bruce Mudende Rutishisha, Thierry Nkundwa and Landry Irumva, while the girls’ quartet comprises; Hope Butera, Deborah Iryimanivuze, Sifa Joyeuse Ineza, Deborah Iryimanivuze and Faustine Mwizerwa.

RTF has named a strong ten-member team for the five-day competition and, according to head coach Irene Allain Bagire,

Dream Team Taekwondo duo of Ivan Iradukunda (-48kgs) and Eric Byukusenge (-55kgs) are some of the famous names on the team in training.

Byukusenge represented the country at the 2018 Africa Junior Taekwondo Championship in Tunisia, whilst Iradukunda finished second in his weight category at the Ambassador’s Cup last year.

Other members of the team include Elissa Uwineza (-63kgs), Vincent Ntaganda (-73kgs), Edison Niyomukiza (-73kgs), Anita Ingabire (-44kgs), Kevin Umutesi (-49kgs), Adinette Umuhoza (-55kgs), Nadege Umurerwa (-63kgs) and Emmanuelle Tumukunde (-63kgs).
