RESILIENCE RUGBY CLUB defeated arch-rivals Muhanga Thunders 14-11 in the national rugby league to maintain their unbeaten run since the start of the league season.

The game was played on Sunday away at Muhanga Stadium, with the visitors playing only with 16 players while others could not make it to the venue due to financial constraints.

Speaking to Time Sport on Sunday evening, coach-player Donatien Ufitimfura said the game was tough, but they tried every tactical move to win the game. "We tried our best to uphold our position,” he noted.

Samuel Nirere picked one try together with two drop goals while on-form Steven Kwizera picked the needed penalty kick to seal the victory for their side that has now registered three wins from all three games.

In another interesting game that was played on Saturday, Thousand Hills Rugby Club picked their first victory of the season in an intense game against rivals Lion de Fer on the muddy and rainy day at Red Cross Grounds.

The Hills won by 10-6 in the game that attracted a good number of rugby fanatics who cheered under the rain.

Hills coach Jimmy Mugabo said he missed his key captain Heritier Habimana because he was the only player selected to represent Rwanda in the East Africa Community Rugby Team which is off playing in Hong Kong.

"The boys stood their ground, passing the ball was the only key strategy we used to win the game,” he pointed out.

Resilience tops the standings with 14 points out of three games, followed by Muhanga with 10, Kigali Sharks club which had a resting day is tied with Muhanga on points to remain third.

The Hills now moved to the fourth position ahead of Lion de Fer, both sides have 9 points. Puma Kamonyi rugby club has just one point while the University of Rwanda Grizzlies and Remera Buffaloes are bottom with no point.

In the second division league, newly promoted sides Rwamagana Rugby Club beat Burera Tigers by 12-8 in the opening first game played at Red Cross Ground Kacyiru.
