After a successful comedy show that was dubbed, ‘Michael’s Comedy Special’, on March 24, local comedians are gearing up for the biggest shows slated for this week.

The week-long festival will feature a bus show, before the main two performances on Saturday and Sunday.

According to Arthur Nkusi, the founder and organiser of the comedy festival, there has been a change in the arrangement.

Earlier on, organisers had announced that the ‘Comedy on the Bus’ would take place throughout the week from March 25 to 30.

Nkusi, however, told this paper that due to challenges in accessing permission, the show is scheduled for March 29.

‘Comedy on the Bus’ will see local comedians entertain passengers on buses, plying selected routes in Kigali.

Each route has designated pick up points from which revellers will board the buses.

The first route will have local comedians entertaining comedy lovers from Kimironko bus station to town and back to Kimironko.

The second route will transport comedy lovers from Remera to town, to Nyamirambo and back to town.

The third route, starts from town to Kicukiro, and back to town. All performances will be, and strictly, for local upcoming comedians.

The highlight of the day will be ‘Meet Laugh and Greet Party at JJ Club, Park Inn, Kiyovu. It will be an open microphone and free performance for all, where everyone will have the chance to showcase their talent.

The final day will feature Africa’s famous comedians, like Nigerian comedian Basketmouth, Kenya’s Eric Omondi, and Salvador as well as Alex Muhangi—both from Uganda. The show will also feature a host of talented local comedians, including Arthur Nkusi, who is also the host of the festival. The audience will also be treated to an unusual array of repertoire that will include Weasel from Uganda, who will perform alongside Charly na Nina, and Sintex, Arthur Nkusi’s young brother.

Their performances are scheduled for March 30, at Gikondo Expo Grounds, and it will be hosted by stand-up comedian Alex Muhangi. Entrance fee is Rwf5000 (regular), and Rwf10.000 (VIP). Gates open 4pm.
