Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Deputy Prime Minister of Qatar, on Friday, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente at the latter’s office in Kimihurura.

This was part of Al Thani’s two-day visit to the country that started on Thursday. During the meeting, they discussed how best to enhance cooperation between the two countries.

Al Thani is also the Qatari Minister for Foreign Affairs.

"This was a courtesy call and, of course, the delegation exchanged views about cooperation between Qatar and Rwanda on domestic and regional issues in Africa,” Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Richard Sezibera, who attended the meeting, told the media.

The conversation was around looking at the progress of the bilateral ties between Rwanda and Qatar, which he said are on good footing, according to Sezibera.

He said that the officials also discussed investment opportunities.

"The discussions also centred on possible investments in many areas. The areas for possible investments as discussed are in agriculture, agribusiness, irrigation FinTech, transport, aviation, and mining. The discussions will continue with concerned institutions,” Sezibera said.

He said that when Rwanda was leading African Union last year, Qatar managed to deepen their ties with the continental body and that the two parties signed some agreements that covered cooperation in different sectors.

In November last year, President Paul Kagame also visited Qatar with view to accelerate economic cooperation between the two nations.
