A return ticket for the Kigali-Nairobi route has been reduced to $199 (Rwf112,604) while charges for the Kigali-Johannesburg route have been reduced to $399 (Rwf225,774) for the economy class

Rwandair Express, a state-owned airliner has reduced its fares for the Kigali, Nairobi route. The fairs on all return tickets have also been reduced on the Kigali, Johannesburg route in a two months promotion.

According to a statement availed on the company’s website, a return ticket for the Kigali-Nairobi route has been reduced to $199 (Rwf112,604) while charges for the Kigali-Johannesburg route has been reduced to $399 (Rwf225,774) and $599 (Rwf338, 944) for economy and business class respectively.

As of December last year, the Kigali, Nairobi fares where quoted at $300, $350 and $400 depending on the passenger class.

The Kigali-Johannesburg fares were $530, $595, $655 and $999.

Rwandair which has fully introduced on-line bookings announced that the fares exclude taxes.

"It is just a promotion” said Michael P. Otieno, the company’s Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications.

"To all our online customers, please take note that these promotional fares exclude taxes and are valid for travel from January 20, to March 3, 2009,” the statement read. 

This means that bookings beyond March will be quoted to the applicable market fare. However the promotional fares are not applicable to children and one-way travels.

The company recently introduced a direct flight from its Kigali hub to Johannesburg, reducing the travel hours to less than four.

The airliner flies to Johannesburg weekly on every Monday, Thursday and Saturday while flights from Johannesburg to Kigali are scheduled for Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

In order to scale up its operations in the region and meet market demand, the airline also increased flights between Kigali and Nairobi to twice a day, pushing the flight frequencies on the same route from 7 to 14 times a week.

In addition to the double daily flights between Kigali and Nairobi, Rwandair also operates twice daily between Kigali and Entebbe.

There are also daily flights between Kigali and Bujumbura, three flights weekly between Kigali and Kilimanjaro and domestic flights to Kamemb, Cyangugu and Gisenyi.
