Local football body (Ferwafa) in partnership with Arsenal FC youth coaches have said that they will train female coaches under the theme "coach-coaches” next year.

The revelation was made during the closing ceremony of the five-day coaching clinic for 50 coaches that took place at Ferwafa headquarters on Friday.

"Next year we shall have training only for women, and it will be the first of the kind,” said Simon McManus, a coach with Arsenal youth teams.

On behalf of Ferwafa, the head of football development Alex Redemptus Nshimiyimana hailed the Visit Rwanda partnership between Rwanda and Arsenal, adding that "We are happy to see and have women stepping in to benefit from this 5-day clinic.”

"We are proud to have these few graduating in this course, the plan is to organize an all-women coaching clinic next year in order to reduce the gender gap in our football,” he further noted.

Meanwhile, the 50 coaches from different schools around the country who graduated, received certificates upon completion, and Ferwafa urged them to share widely the knowledge they have acquired from the programme.

They were taught physical attributes, coaching knowledge and Arsenal tactical styles from attack to defending, Simons told in Saturday Sport an interview.
