Regional Higher Learning Institutions yesterday held a workshop to discuss how the quality of their services can be enhanced in a harmonized way.

The aim of the work shop which took place at Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) was to share ideas on the harmonization of qualification framework, competitiveness, student exchanges and transfer credits.

"This is an initiative of the inter university council for East Africa (IUCEA) with the support of Germany Education Exchange Service to establish a higher Education Quality Assurance Framework for East African Universities,” said Dr Papias Musafiri, the Director of Policy, Research & Planning at NHEC.

NCHE is the National Council for Higher Education.
The workshop which was organized by NCHE, was attended by representatives of different higher Education institutions including Egerton University of Kenya, Islamic University of Uganda, University of Tanzania, and all Rwanda’s public and private learning institutions.

"This was done for ensuring the structure, organization and functioning of Higher Education Institutions, monitoring and evaluating the quality standards and ensuring quality enhancement of teaching and research,” he added.

Speaking to The New Times yesterday, the Executive Secretary of the Tanzania Commission for University (TCU) who also chairs the IUCEA, Professor Muyunga Nkunya, reiterated the urgent need to promote quality so as to safeguard and promote academic integrity, excellence and acceptability of regional academic credentials internationally.
