RWANDA energy group volleyball club have set their sights on winning the inaugural edition of the regional Africa Zone V Club Championship, set to be staged February 19-24 at Amahoro stadium in Kigali.

But Benon Bavuga Mugisha’s team will first have to win the first leg of playoffs against IPRC-Ngoma – also to be staged at Amahoro Stadium – on Friday.

On Friday REG withdrew from this year’s Father Emmanuel Kayumba memorial volleyball tournament saying that some of their players were unavailable through illness, injury or compassionate leave.

Mugisha told Times Sport that they are concentrating on both the Playoffs and Zone V tournament and therefore need to have good preparations.

"We want to do well in both competitions and therefore want to prepare well both mentally and physically,” Bavuga noted.

"As for our participation in the inaugural edition of the regional Africa Zone V Club Championships, we want to win the tournament and believe that is possible as long as our players are in good form,” said Mugisha.

REG finished top in the league with 29 points, one ahead of UTB.

Rwanda is also due to host the Zone V general assembly in Kigali on February 23.

Teams - Zone 5 Club Championship: REG, Gisagara, UTB, APR and Kirehe from Rwanda, Nemo Stars, Sport S, KAVC from Uganda, Amical of Burundi, Jeshi Stars – Tanzania, Welatia Dicha And Madda Walabu University – Ethiopia.
