Rwanda Energy Group Volleyball Club has withdrawn from this year’s Father Emmanuel Kayumba memorial volleyball tournament that starts today in Huye.

According to club head coach, Benon Bavuga Mugisha, the management of the club decided to concentrate on Playoffs which start next week at Amahoro indoor stadium and the Zone V volleyball club championships from February 19-24.

However Bavuga added that the team is without many of its first team players who are unavailable through sickness, injury and others who are on compassionate leave.

Those players are Simon Rwigema, Gloire Niyonkuru, Moses Omondi, Savior Atama and Pierre Marshal Kwizera.

Other teams that pulled out of the tourney are APR, Kirehe and IPRC-Ngoma.

Meanwhile, University of Tourism, Technology and Business Studies (UTB) women have vowed to win the annual Father Emmanuel Kayumba.

"Although it was debut in the competition, we believe we have what it takes to triumph in the tournament,” Sylvester Mbanza, the team coach said.

The tournament is held in memory of Kayumba who passed away in 2009. He was instrumental in the growth of volleyball in Group Scolaire de Butare.
