APR Football Club has appointed Serbian coach Zlatko Krmpotić as the new club coach after unveiling the 61 year-old at the club’s Kimihurura offices on Friday.
Krmpotić signed a one-year contract until the end of the 2019/20 season and will be assisted by Jimmy Mulisa (Assistant coach), Radanavic Miodrag (Fitness coach), Ibrahim Mugisha (goalkeeping coach), and Didier Bizimana (physio).
The Serbian has previously coached TP Mazembe (2015), Don Bosco, Zesco United (2017) and Jwaneng (2018). He played for Red Star Belgrade (1977-1986) and Genclerbirligi (1986-1988).
"We want to build a side that can continue challenging for silverware in Rwanda, the region and Africa. There is no doubt that football is popular and lucrative in Rwanda. But what is lacking is professionalism in terms of playing,” Zlatko Krmpotić said during his unveiling.
Krmpotić noted that APR is a big brand but needs to work hard to build a strong foundation at the club. "I believe that we will have a better team in the coming seasons,” he added.
Midfielder Niyonzima joins APR
Meanwhile Rwandan international Ally Niyonzima has completed a move from AS Kigali to Azam Rwanda Premier League champions APR on an 18 months contract.
The former Mukura captain is reportedly to put pen to paper after the two clubs agreed on a transfer fee of Rwf13million.
The development was confirmed to Times Sport on by AS Kigali Secretary General Daniel Komezusenge.
"I will not go into details but I can confirm that AS Kigali has reached an agreement with APR for the transfer of Ally Niyonzima,” Komezusenge said.
Niyonzima still had four months left on his contract with AS Kigali.
"Niyonzima is currently out of the country but he left after signing the deal and we expect him to arrive in the country next week to join the rest of the squad for the second half of the league”.
Niyonzima joined AS Kigali from Mukura last season on a two-year deal as a free agent, something that saw him pocket Rwf18million as a signing on fee.
The military side has also recruited two more players including midfielder Danny Usengimana from Tersana Sporting Club of Egypt and striker Innocent Nshuti from Tunisian topflight league side Stade Tunisien.
