Debut wedding show to take place this weekend

Rwanda will this weekend host its first ever wedding show at the Kigali Convention Centre.

Dubbed, The East African Wedding Show, the two-day event will take place on February 9 and 10.

According to Amanda Louise Kamanzi, one of the organisers, the wedding show is the brainchild of the founder of East African Brides, a social media page that showcases East African Brides.

"Our future goal is that The East African Wedding show will be one of the top MICE events held in Rwanda annually and attracting many thousands from across the region and even the continent as we tap into this remarkable industry,” she said.

East African Brides has a huge following of over 20,000, of mostly vendors from the region who regularly interact through social media. From this platform that they were able to gage a necessity for this event and specific needs from attendees, which will help in the planning and execution stage.

The East African Wedding Show will showcase work of a diverse group of specialists from major vendors such as hotels, florists, bakers, bridal shops, transportation, to smaller, privately owned business such as salons, make-up artists and hair stylists, photographers, wedding decorators, invitation card designers, entertainment etc. and will be open to the public at a fee.

It will also feature top African talent, including bespoke Nigerian wedding gown and suit designer, Mai Atafo, Uganda’s top Haute Couturier and bridal designer, Anita Beryl, Kenya’s Award winning fashion designer, Ogake Mosomi and Muthoni Njoba, a Kenyan make-up artist extradonaire.

On showcasing at the East African Wedding Show, Anita Beryl said: "This is one of those invitations I am very happy to honour, mostly because for a long time, 20 per cent of my brides have come all the way from Rwanda to get their wedding dresses from Beryl Qouture. So it is such an honour and a pleasure for me to be able to bring my services closer to them, I truly look forward to being a part of the show.”
