U.S. gospel icon Don Moen jets in Saturday ahead of mega concert

Celebrated international gospel artiste and pastor Don Moen is expected to arrive in the country this Saturday, for the much-anticipated ‘MTN Kigali Praise Fest’. The event will take place on Sunday, February 10.

"He is arriving on Saturday, and will address a press conference the same day at 4pm. The venue will be communicated,” Axelle umutesi, of RG Consult, told The New Times on Monday.

RG Consult Inc, is a local events management and experiential marketing company, that is organising the concert, in partnership with MTN Rwanda.

The legendary American gospel singer will touch down at the  Kigali International Airport, from Uganda, where he is scheduled to perform  on February 8.

With a music career spanning over 30 years , Moen has inspired the spiritual lives of many people in Rwanda and the world at large.

The concert will take place at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (Camp Kigali).

"I think Don Moen is one of the greatest gospel artistes of all time. I mostly love his songs, ‘He will make a way,’ and ‘Our Father’,” said Peter Nkurunziza, a resident of Remera.

"His song, He will make a way, brings hope to my soul whenever I feel hopeless, and this keeps me moving,’ he added.

Vestina Mwiza, a Christian from Giporoso, also expressed her excitement. "Its good because it puts the name of Jesus Christ higher. I’m extremely happy and can’t wait for his performance. He is coming to Rwanda for the first time, it is amazing,” she said.

Pastor Donah Nziza, from Kabeza, said that she  looks forward to seeing the renowned worshiper, whose music she has enjoyed, but hasn’t met,

"I will attend. I like his music but I don’t know him physically,” she said.

Tickets are on sale at different places around Kigali at Rwf 11,400 (ordinary), Rwf 23,750 (VIP), and Rwf 237,500 (VVIP table of eight).

Tickets can be purchased at Giporoso (MTN Centre), Chic Building (MTN Centre), Remera Corner (MTN Centre), Camellia (CHIK), Camellia (UTC), Camellia (Makuza Plaza), Caritas Book shop, BemBonita Salon and Kigali Serena Hotel.

Israel Mbonyi and AFLEWO (Africa Let’s Worship –Rwanda Chapter), a local gospel music group, will be the curtain-raising acts.

Born June 29 1950, Donald James ‘Don’ Moen is a gospel singer, songwriter, pastor, and producer of Christian worship music.

Earlier in his religious calling, he worked at Integrity Music, a U.S-based recording label after completing university. He became a leading gospel artist for Terry Law Ministries, a US gospel outfit, and toured with the ministry for over ten years.

He produced eleven volumes for the Hosana! Music series of worship albums. His first album under his own name, Worship with Don Moen, was released in 1992.

Some of his songs include Your Grace is Enough, Our Father, Thank You Lord, God is Good all the time, I will Sing, As We Worship You, Have Your Way, and He Never Sleeps, among others.

Moen worked for Integrity Media for over 20 years, serving as Creative Director and president of Integrity Music, president of Integrity Label Group, and an executive producer of Integrity Music albums. He left Integrity Media in December 2007 to start a new initiative, The Don Moen Company.
