Rwanda Energy Group (REG) recorded two easy yet very important victories over Kirehe and IPRC-East on Saturday to leapfrog UTB into pole position as the national volleyball league heads to the playoffs games.

The four teams that will tussle it out in Play-off Games – scheduled to begin early March – include; hopefuls REG, UTB, champions Gisagara, and IPRC-West.

The two wins lifted REG to 29 points atop the table, one ahead of second-placed UTB and third-placed Gisagara who are both level at 28 points. IPRC-West complete top four with 13 points.

Benon Mugisha’s side started the day beating IPRC-East in straight sets 25-21, 25-20 and 25-18 before overpowering Kirehe 25-20, 25-21 and 25-20 later in the day at Nyakarambi volleyball courts in Kirehe District.

"We are happy for the two crucial victories, all my players were fantastic today. We want to take this momentum into the playoffs as we gun for the league title, and it certainly is going to be a tough call,” said Mugisha, the REG head coach in a post-match interview.

In other matches played on Saturday, two-time reigning champions Gisagara ran victors over IPRC-West (3-1) and APR (3-2), APR beat IPRC-West in straight (3-0) sets while Kirehe edged IPRc-East in a four-set (4-1) thriller.
