Rwanda is delighted to host the 24th ‘INTERPOL African Regional Conference’ to be held between February 5th and 7th, 2019 at Kigali Convention Centre. About 300 delegates from across the African continent and beyond as well as Police cooperation bodies will come together to discuss joint strategies to address the continental shared security concerns.

Established in 1962, the African Regional Conference takes place every two years in order to assess the state of police cooperation and the fight against transnational crime.

Objective

Heads of Police from all African countries and Police cooperation bodies including the Interpol  Executive Committee and Secretariat, will come together to discuss specific crime-related problems from across Africa, share experiences and discuss ways to tackle common and emerging crime issues. 

Areas of focus

- The conference will focus on the following: - Regional challenges and cooperation - Illicit trafficking of drugs and pharmaceutical - Environmental security - Financial crime and anti-Corruption - Counter-terrorism and maritime piracy - Trafficking in human beings - child exploitation - Interpol policing capabilities - Cybercrime and innovation

ABLE TOP EXERCISE ON COUNTERING CYBER ENABLED TERRORISM

The 19th Council of Police Chiefs (CPC) for the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) resolved that Rwanda hosts the Table Top Exercise (TTX) to bring together EAPCCO Law enforcement officers to undertake a joint training in the areas related to cybercrime and terrorism.

It is in this context that on the sideline of the Conference, Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), INTERPOL, EAPCCO Secretariat and regional cooperating partners (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime – UNODC, EU funded project on Regional law enforcement for Greater Horn of Africa) will jointly conduct the TTX. The Table Top Exercise (TTX) CYBER TRACKS II will be conducted from 3rd to 7th February 2019, under the theme:

CYBER TRACKS: "A multidisciplinary approach to Prevent, Detect and Investigate Terrorism”.

Participants from the 14 EAPCCO member countries drawn from cybercrime, counter-terrorism and INTERPOL - National Central Bureau (NCB) departments will undergo 3 days of training, followed by 2 days of exercise.

The TTX will equip participants with relevant skills in countering cyber enabled crimes that will include:

- Exposure to knowledge and modern tools and solutions in cyber, Digital forensics and terrorism related Investigations - Practice in Counter terrorism cyber related investigations - Application of INTERPOL Policing capabilities including notices and database and - Enhance law enforcement cooperation in cyber related investigations.
