Rayon Sports head coach Roberto Oliveira Goncalves de Calmo has made it clear that he wants at least two new centre-backs in his squad to fill the void left behind by former club stars.

The Brazilian’s appeal follows the departures of his former central defender Abdul Rwatubyaye this month, which left him with only two players – Thierry Manzi and Hussein Habimana – at the heart of his defence.

"We have no backup in our central defence,” he told Times Sport, adding that "the crisis would deepen if one of them became ill or got injured,” and urged the club to sign at least two versatile defenders if they are to stay in the race for Azam Rwanda Premier League title.

Rwanda international Rwatubyaye left the club and country a fortnight ago for trials with FK Shkupi FC in Macedonia.

The Blues have also recently sold star midfielders Yannick Mukunzi and Kevin Muhire as well as Burundian striker Bonfils Caleb Bimenyimana who played his final match for the club during their 2-0 victory over Etincelles on Saturday.

Bimenyimana, 21, departed Kigali this Monday and is expected to sign a two-year contract with Latvian side FK Rīgas Futbola Skola should he pass his medical tests this week.

"Several players have left since I joined Rayon Sports seven months ago, but the club has continued to thrive. I am confident we will get good replacements to fill the void of by those who recently left,” Roberto noted.

It is also reported that goalkeeper Abouba Bashunga and midfielder Djabel Manishimwe could soon be next on the list of those exiting the club for greener pastures abroad.

After 15 league games this season, Rayon Sports are second with 31 points, four adrift of leaders and defending champions APR.
