MTN Rwanda has on Tuesday announced that it has launched a 3-month long Internet Fest (iFest) focusing on promoting data services to both current and potential data users as part of a strategy to drive data penetration in Rwanda.

The MTN iFest is positioned to showcase how important the Internet is for communicating, discovering and learning, while enabling people to experience MTN’s wide array of latest innovations and devices.

Speaking at the launch of the campaign at Remera Taxi Park in Kigali, Chief Marketing Officer, Richard Acheampong said that MTN’s objective is to drive data penetration to the masses by offering enjoyable customer experience and value when using MTN data.

"As part of our vision of delivering a bold, new Digital World to our customers, the iFest is intended to take the digital experience and access to the Internet closer to the people. We will be educating the masses on the benefits of the Internet, showcasing MTN’s wide product and service portfolio as well as offer data enabled devices at the most affordable prices.”

Activities to be undertaken during the iFest include, market storms and activations, campus activations and data clinics across Rwanda, among others.

In line with delivering a seamless user experience, MTN has introduced a self-service IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system that will offer Data Tips 24/7. This will be accessed by dialling 200. The IVR is to ensure that MTN subscribers are educated on how they access the Internet, use MTN Data and solve issues all on their own.

The recent introduction of MyMTN App (download for Android, iOS), an all-in-one, self-care tool enabling MTN customers to self-serve and engage with customer service online and everywhere they go, is also proof of MTN’s continued commitment in exploring innovative ways to deliver personalized and valuable experiences to its customers.

As part of its customer centric approach, MTN recently dropped its mobile out-of-bundle internet price to Frw10/MB from Frw56/MB, making it the lowest out-of-bundle rate in Rwanda.

"Although we continue to see growth of data subscribers on our network, there are many Rwandans who are yet to experience the benefits of the internet. We want to create awareness of the vast opportunities available to them with MTN Data” added Acheampong.

In 2018, MTN invested $20 million on Modernizing and Transforming the network that has so far enhanced 3G coverage, data volume and improved data speeds across the country using the 900 MHz spectrum. Modernising the network with future proof technology is to accommodate the increasing number of smartphone users and meet the demand of new services and applications.

"People’s data consumption patterns are changing rapidly and MTN is constantly looking for innovative ways to ensure that our customers’ needs are met,” concluded Acheampong.

The launch of the MTN iFest is backed by a high-impact, multi-channel marketing strategy that includes a combination of market-specific print, digital, outdoor and mobile creative executions featuring local actor and comedian popularly known as Clapton ‘Kibonge’.
