The 2019 edition of the National Cross Country Championship will been brought forward to January 26 and will take place at Kicukiro stadium, Times Sport understands.

According to Rwanda Athletics Federation (RAF) president, Fidèle Mubiligi, this year’s event is being held early in the season so it can be used to make final selection for athletes who will represent the country at the 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championship.

The National Cross Country Championship is usually organised towards the end of the season. The 2018 edition was held last November.

Rwanda international middle and long distance runners Noel Hitimana and Marthe Yankurije, both plying their trades with APR Athletics Club, were the champions in men and women’s categories, respectively.

The 43rd World Cross Country Championship is scheduled for March 30 in Denmark.
