Newcomers University of Tourism, Technology and Business Studies (UTB) women volleyball club are the winners of the 2019 Volleyball Preseason Tournament.

The inaugural tourney ended Sunday after UTB defeated Rwanda Revenue Authority 3-2 in the final at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.

Silvestre Mbanza’s side overcame champions RRA in a five-set thriller (25-16, 22-25, 25-17, 18-25 and 15-10).

UTB took the opening set 25-16 before RRA claimed the second 25-22.UTB then won the third set 25-17, RRA took the fourth 25-18, before UTB bossed the decider 15-8.

Besides the trophy UTB won Rwf200, 000 in prize, while first runners-up RRA received Rwf150,000, second runners-up IPRC-Kigali getting Rwf100000.

Benitha Mukandayisenga of UTB was named MVP.

Meanwhile, the start of the new season for women’s volleyball league has been moved to February.

Ten teams namely, RRA, APR, KVC, Ruhango, Saint Aloys Rwamagana, IPRC-Kigali, Saint Joseph Kabgayi, UTB, IPRC-South and UR-Huye Campus, will compete in the league in the forthcoming season.
