Rayon Sports have moved to within four points of leaders APR following their emphatic 3-0 victory over Kirehe at Kigali Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

With the big win over Francois Kalisa’s side, Rayon jumped into second spot with 28 points from 14 matches, two points ahead of third-placed Mukura Victory Sports who have played four games less.

Burundian striker Bonfils Caleb Bimenyimana scored the opener from the spot in the 38th minute after being fouled by Kirehe defender Jackson Nkurikiye in the penalty area.

The first-half ended 1-0.

The hosts continued to dominate possession in the second-half and it took only four minutes for skipper Thierry Manzi to double the lead after some good work from Yannick Mukunzi and Fabrice Mugheni who combined to destroy the visitors’ defence.

Ghana-born forward Micheal Sarpong made it three with a beautiful finish from Bimenyimana’s cross in injury time to make it his seventh league goal this season.

Bimenyimana and Sarpong have scored seven goals each for Roberto Oliveira’s side this term, two goals shy of joint leaders Djuma Nizeyimana (SC Kiyovu) and Sunrise striker Jules Ulimwengu.

It was an emotional victory for midfielder Mukunzi who was playing his last game for the Blues ahead of his move to Sandvikens IF, this week, in Swedish third division league.

The Rwanda international and former APR playmaker joined Rayon Sports in August 2017 and had since been one of the club’s most influential players.
