Manufacturers, assemblers, and miners in Rwanda can now obtain VAT exemption services on raw materials, capital goods, and machinery through Irembo, the country’s one-stop online platform for government services.

Irembo, in partnership with the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MINICOM), on Wednesday, April 24, announced a significant enhancement in the application procedures for VAT exemption. This new service, as noted in a related statement, will enable local manufacturers, assemblers, and miners to obtain value-added tax exemptions on raw materials, capital goods, and machinery.

The statement adds: "The service addition results from a strategic partnership between MINICOM and Irembo that aims to digitise and streamline administrative processes, facilitate business operations, and foster economic growth in Rwanda. By leveraging the advanced capabilities of the Irembo platform, applicants will benefit from enhanced efficiency, transparency, and accessibility throughout the VAT exemption application process.

"Key benefits of the VAT exemption application process through Irembo include simplified online submission, which is accessible from anywhere via the user-friendly IremboGov platform. Digital automation expedites processing, reducing administrative burdens and improving turnaround times. Integration with Irembo enhances transparency, tracking submissions in real-time. This shift to an online platform by MINICOM promotes inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring widespread access to VAT exemption benefits and fostering equity across industries and regions.”

According to the Ministry of Trade and Industry, integrating VAT exemption applications into the IremboGov platform aligns with Rwanda's broader digitalisation agenda, aimed at harnessing technology to improve service delivery and promote ease of doing business. This initiative reaffirms the ministry's commitment to supporting industries by simplifying administrative procedures and reducing bureaucratic hurdles.
