Candidates who sat for Primary Leaving Exams (PLE) and lower secondary education (ordinary level) national examinations will today establish whether they will advance to the next level of their studies in public schools.

According to the announcement made by the Ministry of Education, to be released are the results of the two categories for the examinations that were sat for this year.

The ministry made the announcement through its twitter handle yesterday, saying that the results will be release this morning.

This will be the first time the ministry releases the results before the end of the year in which the candidates sat for the exams. In previous years, results were released in January.

Officials said this aims at moving towards being more efficient and giving ample time to both parents and schools to get ready to facilitate students.

According to Irenée Ndayambaje, the Director General of Rwanda Education Board (REB), releasing the results early is part of the pledges made by the institution’s leadership.

"It has been a promise of the new REB leadership to provide prompt feedback. Hence, the positive impact is simple; letting parents and students get prepared for the new school year that starts on 14th Jan 2019” Ndayambaje said.

Isaac Munyakazi, the State Minister for Primary and Secondary Education told The New Times that: "We are honouring the promise of reducing the time it takes to avail national exams results to allow parents, school administrators, students and the general public to get ready for the new school year which demands a lot of readiness” he said

"Impact is about school readiness where everyone has no excuse of not being ready to do what it requires to,” he added

Some 255,578 candidates sat for primary leaving examinations this year, a significant increase from the 227,870 who sat the previous year-2017, according to figures from Rwanda Education Board (REB)

For ordinary level of secondary education, 98,898 candidates sat this year up from 96,657 candidates who sat for exams the precious year.

Some schools welcomed the move by the Ministry of Education to release results as early ad possible saying it gives chances for those who passed to celebrate end of the year with good news.

Meanwhile, those who sat A’Level exams, Technical and Vocational Education and Training, as well as those from Teacher Training Centres (TTC) will have to wait a little more for their results.
