Police FC forward Peter Otema has said that defeating Azam Rwanda Premier League rivals Rayon Sports last Friday was a perfect Christmas gift for their fans.

Ten-man Police beat Rayon 1-0, thanks a wonder goal from Jean-Paul Uwimabazi in the dying seconds of the match-day 10 game at Kigali Stadium. Otema was sent off late in the second-half.

"The win means a lot, to me and my teammates. Rayon Sports are among the strongest teams in the league – with good players and vast experience, beating them confirms our position as serious contenders for the title. If we focus, we can write history this season,” said Otema.

The former Rayon Sports striker further noted that the law enforcers should no longer settle for being league participants but rather seek to be a consistent force to reckon with in topflight football.

The 2015 Peace Cup winners’ next league encounter will be against Innocent Seninga’s Bugesera on Sunday before taking on SC Kiyovu on January 4.

After ten match rounds, Albert Joel Mphande’s side are in second position with 20 points, from six victories and two draws, trailing leaders APR by five points.

Otema, a former Amavubi forward, previously featured for Kibuye FC, Atraco (now-defunct), Rayon Sports, Police and Musanze before he rejoined Police in August.
