Muvunyi, Muyuku dominate 2nd beach volleyball circuit

University of Tourism, Technology and Business Studies (UTB), players Fred Muvunyi and Feuly Muyuku impressed in the second round of the first ever domestic beach volleyball league after overcoming experienced Flavien Ndamukunda and Olivier Ntagengwa in the games held on Sunday afternoon at Amahoro Stadium outdoor grounds.

The duo, who represented UTB, beat their REG opponents Ndamukunda and Ntagengwa 2-0. The pair dominated the game from start to end with 21-19 and 21-19, respectively- in the final in a game that took two hours.

After winning the final game, captain Muvunyi said it is first time to win trophy in beach volleyball and it was good for him to beat the Rwandan international players from REG.

"We worked hard with my partner to win this circuit and we tried to correct our mistakes as we progressed through the circuit,” said Muvunyi.

However, REG captain Ndamukunda said that they lost final match because they didn’t prepare well. He however saluted the winners for the stellar performance.

In other matches, Ruzindana and Mugisha, finished in third place after beating Gatsinzi and Habanzintwari 2-1 (18-21, 21-16 and 15-9)

This competition was a good opportunity to prepare players who will represent the country at the 2019 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour. The tournament will be staged in Rubavu District in August 2019.
