Ever wondered how one makes juice out of carrots? Well, mixing the juice with a little bit of lemon or lime, or other fruits, makes it tasty for those who are sceptical about how the juice will taste.

The juice not only tastes good but also comes with great health benefits needed for one’s overall well-being.

Joseph Uwiragiye, the head of the nutrition department at University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK), says carrot juice is packed with various health benefits, and its consumption is highly recommended.

For instance, carrot juice is known to get rid of toxins in the liver, thus promoting its health in general. Also, he says that carrots, as most of us know, help with eyesight.

The juice is important as the vitamin A found in carrots is crucial for healthy vision. "One of the significant advantages of consuming carrot juice on a daily basis is the amount of vitamin A it poses. Vitamin A would help improve eyesight,” he says.

Uwiragiye says consuming carrot juice ensures glowing skin as carrots are regarded as one of the vegetables that enhance the appearance of the skin. This is so because the juice has vitamins A and E, antioxidants, and other essential nutrients.

Private Kamanzi, a nutritionist and dietician, says one can also substitute juices with added sugar with carrot juice as this may help maintain or lose weight.

He explains that carrot is a weight-loss-friendly vegetable and a crucial component of a detoxifying diet and that adding carrot juice to your regular diet is one of the best ways to lose abdominal fat.

"These orange vegetables are rich in fibre, which makes the body work harder during digestion and helps the body burn more calories,” he says.

He says carrots are high in vitamin C and benefit pregnant women and unborn children. Consuming carrot juice daily will assist pregnant women in lowering the risk of anaemia.

Studies have also established that carrots are known to be healthy for the eyes, but it turns out they’re also healthy and beneficial for the brain.

For instance, according to a 2010 study published in the journal Nutrition, carrots contain significant levels of luteolin, a substance that may lessen age-related memory impairments and brain inflammation.

The journal adds that carotene in carrot juice may also improve mental performance and lower the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Beta-carotene may also aid in preventing the loss of brain tissue.

Soluble fibre is abundant in carrots and may help lower cholesterol levels. Additionally, they include a lot of beta carotene, a vitamin A antioxidant that can guard against chronic illnesses like heart disease.

Due to the high fibre content, carrot juice is helpful in lowering the bad cholesterol level in the body.

Carrot juice also contains vitamin C, which helps the body create antibodies to protect your immune system. As carrots are loaded with antioxidants, consuming carrot juice daily boosts the immune system.
