Moshions, a leading local fashion house, unveiled its new location in Kigali on Sunday, with a renewed commitment to the Made-in-Rwanda campaign.

Previously located in Gikondo, the fashion house moved to its more spacious new location in Kiyovu, next to the Impact Hub about two weeks ago.

To celebrate this milestone, Sunday night’s launch event drew local fashion industry players and enthusiasts, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and the private sector, among others.

Established in 2015, Moshions fashion house has over the course of three years established a conspicuous foothold on the local fashion scene, cutting its niche in quality luxury wear with the ‘Made In Rwanda’ tag.

Moses Turahirwa, the founder and Creative Director of Moshions, took guests down memory lane, recounting how he started the brand with little more than sheer passion and perseverance. That time, he was still a student at IPRC-Kigali, pursuing Water and Sanitation Management.

With just pencil and paper, he sketched designs for his own inspiration every day. Turahirwa thanked guests for their continued support to the fashion house, be it as friends, or loyal customers. He also thanked government for its renewed efforts in incentivizing the local creative sector in general.

"This is a very important day to me and Moshions. We have reached new heights of growth. This is a real story of starting from a simple dream, and building on it with purpose and faith in the outcome. I am very grateful for everyone’s support through friendly guidance and trust. We believe this is a terrific step in making Rwanda proud and inspiring creatives across the region and Africa,” Turahirwa said.

Thereafter, he was joined by his parents for the ribbon-cutting ceremony that officially ushered guests to the store.

The night also featured the unveiling of a new collaboration between the fashion house and the Kigali Genocide Memorial. As part of the collaboration, apparel boxes comprising of three pieces each were showcased. The boxes contain, among others, classic items for men and women, and an Ubumuntu (humanity) pin.

Turahirwa explained that the contents were chosen to celebrate style and give back to humanity, through which the funds will directly go to support the memorial’s peace building projects.

Later in the evening an auction was staged for an item that accentuated the fashion house’s passion for bespoke and high end fashion, an Umwashi-adorned handbag. In the end, the highest bidder walked away with it for $800.

DJ Toxxyk was at hand to entertain guests till late, as guests tet-a-teted about local fashion.

In its three year run, Moshions has established itself on the local fashion scene and beyond for its elegant and culturally inspired collections that are sought after by Rwandans and foreigners alike. The brand started out specialising in strictly top class creations for men, before bowing to public demand to include women’s wear and accessories.
