Musanze Amputee Football Club on Sunday evening beat Huye 4-3 on penalties to lift the World Day of Persons with Disabilities title at Kimisagara, Kigali.

The opening 25 minutes of the game ended 1-0 in favour of Huye Amputee FC before Musanze Amputee FC came back into the game to equalise on an emotional evening to send the game into a penalty shootout.

Huye missed the last three penalty kicks, while Musanze squandered the opener as well as the fourth kick.

To qualify from the semi-final, Musanze thumped Nyanza Amputee FC 8-0, while Huye qualified without kicking the ball because Rubavu did not turn up.

As champions of the tournament that kicked off in November with ten teams, Musanze Amputee FC were rewarded with medals, a trophy as well as amputee crutches, football kit like playing jerseys and balls plus a cheque in a closed envelop.

Football-For-All is a sport for persons with disabilities. The sport is played with seven players on each team, six outfield players and one goalkeeper.

Outfield players have lower extremity amputation, while goalkeepers have an upper extremity amputation.

The game was introduced in Rwanda in 2015 and is played in eight districts countrywide involving 80 players.
