The Africa Green Growth Forum that is underway in Kigali has many novelties. At the exhibition organised as part of the forum, several green-friendly initiatives are being showcased to the over 1,000 delegates at the meeting.

Among these is a motorcycle that is fully electric. The motorcycle has no exhaust pipe. Its consumption, according to the manufacturer, is 75 per cent cleaner than a petrol-powered motorcycle.

Josh Whale, CEO of Ampersand, the manufacturer of the motorcycles, says that electric motorcycles are cheaper compared to other motorcycles and the company will have devise payment plans that will cater for prospective buyers in varied income gaps.

The Made-in-Rwanda bikes are still in trial phase but will be commercially available on the market soon, according to Whale.

The forum, the first of its kind in Africa, started on Monday under the theme; ‘For A Green and Climate Resilient Africa’.
