Rwanda Energy Group (REG) volleyball club beat league rivals IPRC- East and the University of Tourism Technology and Business Studies (UTB) to reach the last four of the 2018 Gisagara preseason tournament.

During Saturday’s group stage, REG defeated IPRC East 3-0 before beating UTB 3-0 to advance to semi-finals as Group B leaders. UTB also edged out IPRC- East in straight sets (3-0) to secure a slot to the last four as first runners-up of the group.

Kicukiro-based UTB face hosts Gisagara in the first semi-final clash on Sunday morning, at 9am, before holders REG take on Kirehe in the second semi-final at 11am. All matches are hosted at Gisagara Gymnasium in Southern Province.

Two-time reigning champions Gisagara beat IPRC- West and Kirehe 3-0 and 3-1, respectively, to dominate Group A while Kirehe overcame IPRC- West 3-1 to book a ticket to semis as first runners-up.

The 2018 edition pre-season tournament has attracted six teams from the men’s topflight volleyball league namely; APR, UTB, Kirehe, IPRC- South, REG and the hosts Gisagara.

Rwanda Energy Group (REG) lifted last year’s title after overcoming Gisagara in straight sets 25-21 29-27 25-23, in the final.
