LEGACY Basketball Tournament pioneers United Generation Basketball (UGB) have been drawn in Group A along with reigning champions Patriots and APR.

The inaugural edition of the three-day tournament is scheduled for October 26-28 at Amahoro Indoor Stadium in Remera.

Group B is comprised of Rwanda Energy Group (REG), IPRC- Kigali and Espoir.

In the draw conducted on Friday, champions IPRC- South were drawn against The Hoops Rwanda in Group A of women’s category while Group B will be a contest between former national champions APR and Ubumwe.

According to organisers, the main purpose of the competition is to honour two iconic personalities who significantly contributed to the growth of the sport in Rwanda between the years of 1995 and 2007.

The two are late Aimable Shampiyona, former Lycee de Kigali (LDK) Headmaster and founding president of the school’s basketball team, and Jean de Dieu Nizeyimana, who played for the national team while at the same time serving as a volunteer coach with LDK basketball team.

The showpiece will have teams under three major categories; veterans, juniors and the professional (men and women) category.

In the veterans category, four teams have registered and those include; Espoir, UGB, Patriots and CSK. The first two have been placed in Group A while Patriots and CSK form Group B.
