Former Rwanda international midfielder, Djamal Mwiseneza, has relished his recent appointment as assistant coach at Rayon Sports where he played for over ten years.

Mwiseneza, 32, started his youth football with Rayon Sports academy and rose through ranks to the first team, featuring for the club for many years before crossing to rivals APR in 2014.

However, the quick midfielder suffered a series of injuries after making a handful of appearances for the military side until his return to Rayon Sports a little over a year ago.

Mwiseneza has been at Rayon almost his entire career. He featured in the club’s junior team for two years (2005, 2006) before earning promotion to the senior team in 2007. He was a key player in the 2012/2013 campaign when Rayon Sports lifted their first league title in 9 years.

Earlier this week, it was announced that he would be the club’s assistant coach – to Brazilian Roberto Oliveira Goncalves – for the next two years, till end of the 2019/2020 season.

"This is a new horizon to my still-young coaching career, a great opportunity to learn and enjoy football in new responsibilities with a team that has given me everything as a player. I look forward to the challenge,” Mwiseneza told Saturday Sporton Friday.

"I hanged my boots few months ago, it is a great honour to start my coaching journey with Rayon Sports. I am also thankful to head coach Roberto, he is the one who recommended me for the job, probably he has seen something in me that I was yet to discover,” he added.

The vastly talented Mwiseneza is best remembered for his fantastic ball-handling and dribbling skills, crosses and effortless assists to strikers.
