Rwandan fighters continued to show their mastery of the sport against regional rivals as they dominated the 2018 Taekwondo Ambassador’s Cup that concluded Sunday at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.

The two-day event, that started on Saturday, attracted seven regional countries namely; Tanzania, Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.

The annual taekwondo competition, sponsored by the South Korean Embassy in Kigali, attracted a total 300 athletes from 18 clubs, and seven nations.

The hosts claimed ten gold medals in different age, gender and weight categories.

Rwanda’s Dream Taekwondo Club were the dominant force of the competition for a second consecutive year Just like last year, Dream Taekwondo yet again ended the competition on a high after being crowned as the champions.

Rwanda topped the country classification.

Benon Kayitare, of Highway Taekwondo Club, was named the MVP of the senior men’s category, while Laissa Umurerwa, from Dream Team, was the MVP in the senior women’s category.

The two exceptional fighters scooped trophies, medals and air-tickets to Dubai courtesy of event sponsors Ethiopian Airlines.

Meanwhile, Parfait Hakizimana was the best in the male Para Taekwondo category, Sudanese Mostafa Ahmed Abdullah Muhammed was named as the best coach of the competition, while Peter Kamau (Kenya) was awarded as best referee.
