A total of 78 riders are expected to take part in the eighth race of this year’s Rwanda Cycling Cup that resumes today.
Dubbed Kivu Race, the race starts in Musanze town (home of Africa Rising Cycling Center) heading to Rubavu town at the shores of Lake Kivu.
The one-day event comprises of three categories where the juniors’ category has attracted 34 riders from seven teams namely; Les Amis Sportifs, Muhazi Cycling Generation, Club Benediction, Fly club, Kigali Cycling Club, Cycling Club for All and Karongi Vision Sport Center.
The juniors will race 96.4 kilometers that will start from Musanze to Rubavu plus a circuit around Rubavu town.
The women category that will cover the same distance as the juniors will attract only twelve riders from three teams that include Les Amis Sportifs, Club Benediction and Muhazi Cycling Generation.
The Men elites and U23 will cover a 120.7km distance also from Musanze to Rubavu plus a circuit and will attract 32 riders from eight teams that include Les Amis Sportifs, Club Benediction, Cycling Club for All, Fly Club, Nyabihu Cycling team, Muhazi Cycling Generation, Karongi Vision Sports Center and Kigali Cycling Club.
Meanwhile, of the five riders who recently got involved in a car accident while competing at Grand Prix Chantal Biya in Cameroon, only three will take part in today’s race and these include Janvier Rugamba, who races for Les Amis Sportifs, Eric Manizabayo, of Nyabihu Cycling Club, and Michel Uwiduhaye, from Club Benediction.
The duo of Bonaventure Uwizeyimana and Jean Bosco Nsengimana are the only absentees.
Other riders who will not participate in today’s race include reigning national champion Didier Munyaneza who won the previous race from Karongi to Rubavu, which was a Tour du Rwanda build up race.
Team Rwanda makes debut at Tour de Vendée
Munyaneza, 20, along with veteran Adrien Niyonshuti, Valens Ndayisenga, Jean Claude Uwizeye and Jean Paul Rene Ukiniwabo are in France where they are expected to debut at the 47th edition of Tour de Vendée.
Tour of Vendée is a single-day road bicycle race held annually in October in the region of Vendée, France, finishing in a circuit inside La Roche-sur-Yon town.
From 2005 until 2009, the race was organized as a 1.1 event on the UCI Europe Tour, moving to 1.HC classification in 2010, and also being part of the French Road Cycling Cup.
