Rwanda international and Rayon Sports left-back Eric Rutanga has been linked with move to Kenyan side AFC Leopards following his stellar performance in the Caf Confederation Cup.

AFC Leopards have opened talks to sign the Rwandan left-back.

The 25-year-old was in top form as Rayon Sports silenced Kenyan champions Gor Mahia in Nairobi last month, in a Group D clash of the continent’s second-tier club competition.

Rutanga starred in the game assisting Bonfilscaleb Bimenyimana’s opener two minutes into the match, before calmly curling home the winner from a free-kick in the 53rd minute.

He was instrumental for Rayon Sports’ campaign in the Caf Confederation Cup where the eight-time Rwandan champions were eliminated in quarters after losing to Enyimba of Nigeria.

After the 2-1 win, Rutanga, formerly of APR FC, welcomed talks from Gor Mahia for a move in January. "If they bring a good deal, why not? I love Gor Mahia, it is a good team with quality players, I really would like to play for them,” Rutanga was quoted in Kenyan media.

Gor Mahia rivals AFC Leopards have now emerged as the clear favorites to land the defender and it is reported that they have started talks with the player and his representatives.

Gor Mahia are also eying the player to fill the void left by Godfrey Walusimbi, who forced a transfer move to Kaizer Chiefs.
