RWAMAGANA — Youth from Rwamagana district have been urged to form cooperatives in order to fight against poverty.
Representing the Mayor of Rwamagana on a function to launch Rwamagana Orphans Cooperative (ROC), Daniel Karinganire, director of Education for Rwamagana said that cooperatives were an efficient way to remove oneself from poverty.
"Cooperatives are known world-wide for leading members to some level of development. So please form as many cooperatives as possible,” Karinganire told youth who had turned up at Kigabiro sector headquarters over the weekend for the launch of the youth cooperative.
Bosco Nizeyimana, President of ROC said the cooperative started with 36 members, but now boasts 52 youth, mostly Genocide survivors.
Executive Secretary of Kigabiro Sector Valéry Nsenga Rubibi thanked the youth for the initiative and assured them of the sector’s support. "You must work hard and we promise you support of any kind to fight against poverty,” she said.
Muhire Jumapili of the National Youth Concil said that youth represented the biggest percentage of the Rwandan population and advised them on the importance of working together for the development of the nation.
The ceremony ended in giving prizes to youth who had earlier participated and won sporting competitions.
