Rwanda’s Open and Women teams were Tuesday morning paired against Antigua and Barbuda as well as Sierra Leone, respectively, in round two of the ongoing Chess Olympiad 2018 in Batumi, the second-largest city of Georgia.

The country's 10 players, including four teenagers, missed round one games on Monday after arriving in Batumi late in the day.

Games get underway at 1PM local time (3PM in Batumi) every day. The world’s biggest chess tournament started Monday – and will climax on October 7.

Teenagers on the team are Ian Murara Urwintwari, 16, his sister Layola Murara Umuhoza, 15, Joselyne Uwase, 15, and Christelle Uwamahoro, 14.

In the open team, the five players are; Dr Joseph Nzabanita, Candidate Master (CM) Maxence Murara, Fidele Mutabazi, Urwintwari and Alain Niyibizi.

The women team comprises Uwase, Niyonsaba, Umuhoza, Odile Kayitesi and Uwamahoro.

At the Chess Olympiad, countries field four players during a match.

Organized by the world chess federation (FIDE), the Chess Olympiad is a biennial chess tournament that attracts the best players from all over the world to compete.

It comprises open and women’s tournaments, and other events designed to promote the game of chess.

This is the 43rd Chess Olympiad.
