AS Kigali Vs Rayon APR Vs Etincelles

RAYON Sports will start the defence of Agaciro Development Fund title Friday when they take on league rivals AS Kigali in the opener at Amahoro National Stadium.

The third edition of the annual tournament will kick off on Friday and conclude on Sunday.

The competition is contested by the best four teams of the latest Azam Rwanda Premier League.

Besides the Rayon Sports Vs AS Kigali ties, there will be another clash pitting champions APR against last season’s fourth-finishers Etincelles.

Winners in Friday’s ties will automatically seal slots in the final while losers will square off in the third place play-off. Both games will be played on Sunday at the same venue.

Last year, all teams in the competition played against each other on a round-robin format with the side that collected the most points claiming the title.

At the upcoming 2018 edition, the four teams will use the three-day tournament as part of their buildup games ahead of the 2018/19 season which starts on October 19.

Rayon Sports lifted last year’s trophy and bagged Rwf3m in cash prize after edging APR and Police in identical 1-0 victories, despite losing 1-0 to AS Kigali.

APR finished in second position, also with six points. They beat Police 3-1 and AS Kigali 2-0, respectively. AS Kigali took the third position with one win, 2-0, over Police. The latter finished at the bottom of the table without a single point.

First runners-up APR pocketed Rwf2m while AS Kigali walked away with Rwf1m.

The four-team tournament is organised by the local football governing body, Ferwafa, as part of efforts to raise funds for the Agaciro Development Fund, the country’s sovereign wealth fund.
