The 2018 Super Cup match will see Azam Rwanda Premier League champions, APR, and Peace Cup winners, Mukura VS, lock horns on October 6 at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu District.

The season-opener match between league champions and Peace Cup winners is organised by the local football governing body, Ferwafa, in partnership with league sponsors – Azam.

APR romped to a record-extending 17th league title in June after finishing the eight-month-long championship with 66 points, five ahead of second-placed AS Kigali.

On the other hand, their opponents Mukura lifted the Peace Cup title last month after overcoming Rayon Sports 3-1 in spenalty shoot-outs following a goalless draw.

It was the club’s first major title since 1992.

They were also winners of the same tournament (formerly Rwandan Cup) in 1978, 1986 and 1990. The black-and-yellow outfit were also finalists of the 1999, 2005 and 2009 editions.

The much-awaited clash between the two league rivals will be staged as a curtain-raiser ahead of the 2018/19 football season, which gets underway on October 19.

APR will represent the country in the Total Caf Champions League next year while Huye-based Mukura will feature in the continent’s second-tier club competition – Caf Confederation Cup.
