For a while I have been wondering why our local private sector is not at all interested or involved in the Africa Youth Championship, Rwanda 2009.

Actually I was extremely disappointed because any company would have loved to be proudly associated with such events.

I am however glad that this week, in your Wednesday paper, I got to learn that SportFive, the company that has exclusive rights to this competition, blocked our private companies from sponsoring the championship.

Honestly, I think it is quite unfair because besides advertising their products, association of our own companies with this year’s U20 competition would have given us some sort of clear identity as the proud hosts.

I believe that all organisers, should always give host countries a chance to advertise. It must be one of the benefits that come with hosting.
